I've been busy recently getting settled into my new apartment. I'm definitely not 100% there, but the progress has been encouraging to me! Here's a look at some of things I have put together so far...

List of Ten - May 2014

Thursday, May 15, 2014

Following a challenge from Darling Magazine, I decided to start a new monthly feature: List of Ten. Here's what Darling suggests:

Without thinking too hard about it, quickly list the things you love right now – things you may not take the time to really enjoy but that you should.

1. West Harlem

2. My alarm clock a.k.a. wake-up light

3. Not having to wait on a subway train. It's wonderful to arrive at a station and see that my train is coming in 2 minutes.

4. White gel pens for addressing dark envelopes

5. Finding other people who are obsessed with Chick-fil-A

6. This notecard set from Rifle Paper Co.

7. Window A/C units

8. The EIVOR throw from IKEA

9. Using a brand new Sharpie

10. Driving across bridges (or being driven across a bridge!)

Spring in New York City - 2014

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

Watching the very cold, very snowy winter season transform into the very bright, very breezy spring season has been almost magical. Since before this year I had only visited for a week at a time at most, it's been so great to see the city's changing beauty.

“'Is the spring coming?' he said. 'What is it like?'...
'It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine...'”

“I enjoy the spring more than the autumn now. One does, I think, as one gets older.”

“Spring drew on...and a greenness grew over those brown beds, which, freshening daily, suggested the thought that Hope traversed them at night, and left each morning brighter traces of her steps.”

“Every intoxicating delight of early spring was in the air. The breeze that fanned her cheek was laden with subtle perfume and the crisp, fresh odor of unfolding leaves.”

Kentucky Derby Party 2014

Monday, May 5, 2014

Saturday, May 3, was the 140th Kentucky Derby (aka The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports)!

While it's normal in Louisville to celebrate the Derby every year, it's definitely not the norm in New York City. I'm so glad that my friends, Amber and Joe, throw a big Derby party every year. This was the first year I was able to attend and I was so happy to help them set up for the party as well. :-)

One of my favorite parts of the party was when someone asked me to explain what "My Old Kentucky Home" was after the phrase was flashed on the screen. Since I'm always game to gush about Louisville or Kentucky, it was fun to answer lots of questions all day!

Poor Danny was tuckered out after the long day of celebration.
