Thursday, September 19, 2013

As Autumn quickly approaches, I've been thinking a lot about what a great summer I've had. It wasn't perfect or always happy, but everything that happened is a great reminder of how blessed I am. I started making a list in my head, but thought it'd be easier for me to reminisce if I typed it out...

Destination: Roadtrip - Huber's Orchard and Winery

Monday, September 9, 2013

One perk of living in Louisville is that it's easy to travel to several different states within a matter of minutes to a couple of hours. There are actually a lot of options in Southern Indiana for the Louisvillian who wants to get out of the city for a little while (perhaps on a mini-roadtrip?). On Labor Day, a friend suggested that we go to Huber's to pick some apples. This turned out to be a great way to spend our days off from work!

While I didn't grow up in a family that went to Huber's every year as the kick off to the Autumn season as is the tradition for many, we did often pick fruits and veggies at different farms in the area as well as take yearly mission trips to a farm in Eastern KY. For this reason, I always feel a little nostalgic for my elementary years whenever I go to a farm.

My favorite part of the day (besides the company!) was that Huber's has apple cider slushies. Just thinking about it right now makes me want to go up this weekend to buy another one. In addition to apple picking, Huber's has a schedule of when other types of fruits are picked throughout the year. They also have pre-picked produce, a bakery, an ice cream shop, a winery, and a restaurant!

Louisville Loves - WorldFest 2013

Wednesday, September 4, 2013

This past weekend I attended my first WorldFest in downtown Louisville! I think that it was one of the best free events I have ever been to - anywhere, not just in Louisville. It's one of those types of things that you can go to for a couple hours or all day and still have more things to enjoy. They have hundreds of booths and vendors, dozens of food options, and plenty of live music.

I went with friends and we mainly focused on the food and the free concerts. I ended up getting soul food (okay, okay, I know I should have gotten something I don't already eat regularly!), but others got Caribbean jerk-style chicken and German food. We heard live salsa music and a band specializing in Irish music.

I'll definitely go back next year! This is a family-friendly event and a great opportunity to experience new cultures in Kentucky. I wouldn't hesitate to say that it's worth driving into town for if you live 1-2 hours away from Louisville.
